Part One
My teddy bear and I both know
There are angels by my bed.
They are standing there to guard me
When I lay my sleepy head.
I cannot see them but I know
That they are always there
Watching and protecting me...
Me and my teddy bear.
***
The queen stood on the balcony
Waving to the crowd.
She cried, “I have a headache,
So please don't shout so loud.”
But it wasn't all the shouting
That made the queen see red,
Upon her head a bird had perched
And was pecking at her head.
***
There was a man who jumped so high,
He jumped out of his skin,
And when he landed on the ground,
He put it on again.
***
The heads were on the table
Bouncing up and down with glee.
There was Bobby, Bill and Katy,
And little Emily.
They never went outside to play
With children such as you.
The heads just keep on bouncing,
Because there's nothing else to do.
***
On a seesaw with a friend
Up and down and then
Push your feet into the ground
Then up and down again.
Part Two
A journey from here to eternity
Has been taken by Charlie Magee.
It will take him forever to get there.
I wonder how old he will be.
***
A great big spider in the bath
Had climbed up through the spout.
My mother, when she saws it screamed,
“Please get that monster out.”
I ran into my bedroom
To get my fishing net
And now that great big spider
Is my bestest ever pet.
***
I wandered lonely as a cloud
Until something caught my eye.
Upon a plate before me lay
A steak and kidney pie.
I noticed it was piping hot,
I would eat without delay.
But as I neared this gorgeous meal,
It upped and ran away!
***
Polly Piper said her prayers
Then went to sleep beneath the stairs.
Her mum and dad, their dog and cat,
Slept together on a mat.
Where were the beds in their small house?
They had been eaten by a mouse.
***
The man in the moon
Blew up a balloon
Just for a bit of fun.
This jolly old fellow
Then coloured it yellow
And decided to call it the sun.
Part Three
Worms, although they're tough to chew
Are quite delicious in a stew.
Beetles, when you're stuck for lunch
Are really very nice to munch
And frogspawn sandwiches for tea
Slide down very easily.
***
Twas Christmas Eve and Santa Claus
Was checking his long list.
He checked it once, then checked it twice
For things he might have missed.
But everything had checked out fine
The toys were on his sleigh.
“Come Dasher, Dancer, all my friends,
We must be on our way.”
Into the cold night air they flew
As snow began to fall
“No time to waste,” cried Santa,
“We have gifts for one and all.”
From house to house without a sound
So quickly has he been
That no-one seems to notice him,
For Santa's never seen.
The journey's over, now at last
The children wake and they
Will open all their wondrous gifts
For now 'tis Christmas Day.
***
A carrot, parsnip and a swede
Were lined up for a race.
The swede kept making false starts so,
Retires with much disgrace.
But now they're off, the carrot leads,
He's the fastest we have seen.
But who's that joining in the race?
It is the runner bean.
All of them are neck and neck
The winning post's in view.
But who will win and be the first
To jump into the stew?
The runner bean makes one last dash.
The parsnip's going strong.
But the carrot, now is past his best,
The race has been too long.
And so the runner bean stands proud.
The prize he now has got.
He joins hands with his two best friends
And jumps into the pot!
***
“Gollopy Gumble, Gollopy Goo,”
Said the wizard to the dog.
“If you cannot say what I've just said,
You'll be turned into a frog.”
“Gollopy Gumble, Gollopy Goo,”
Said the dog to his tormentor,
And changed the wizard into a gate
With a sign saying 'Do not enter.'
***
There are fairies in my garden
I often watch them play.
I can see them from my bedroom
On a sunny summer's day.
I'd like to be there with them
To while away the hours.
Oh wouldn't it be wonderful
To play amongst the flowers.
Part Four
I'd like to be a robot
And rescue next door's cat.
It always gets stuck up our tree
Because it is so fat.
I'd fire my trusty ray-gun
Up to the highest bough
Then bring poor kitty back to earth
And hear a grateful 'meow'.
***
I spy with my little eye
Something that sits on my head.
It isn't a mat, nor next door's cat
And it certainly isn't a shed.
It begins with an H
And the next letter is A
And the last letter makes it H-A-T
So what's on my head
If it's not what I've said,
I wonder what else it could be?
***
I cannot understand
Why I'm treated like a kid
Just because I go outside
And bang a dustbin lid.
I like to feed the goldfish
To our next door neighbour's cat.
I know he likes them very much
Because they've made hi
m fat.
I do lots of funny things
Mum and dad get very mad.
But I am only three years old
Can I really be that bad?
***
A Griggygrock from Dunnockdoon
Was standing by a gate
When an alien on a skateboard said,
“I'm running rather late!”
The Griggygrock just stood and watched
And thought, 'My what a fuss,
If he had only waited here,
He could have caught the bus.'
Then Princess Jane passed by and cried,
“That skateboard ran me down!”
But the alien was too fast so she
Just chased him round and round.
***
The Easter bunny came to me
As I lay in my bed.
And with a golden cane he held,
He tapped me on the head.
He said, “I'll do a magic trick,”
Then slapped his furry legs,
And then, amid a mighty flash
Appeared some Easter eggs.
I asked him if he'd join me in
My chocolate eating spree.
He said, “I'm sorry but I've got
Some sausages for tea.”
Then in a shower of golden stars
He disappeared from view.
The Easter bunny left my room,
Perhaps he'll come to you.
Part Five
I'd like to have an Easter egg
As big as little me.
Then I would share it with my friends
And all the family.
The biggest piece would go to Mum,
A smaller piece for Dad
Although he tells me off a lot
He's really not that bad.
And when the egg has almost gone
I know I'll feel just fine
For now there's only little me
And what is left is mine!
***
I like my little potty
It's the one thing that I own
That makes me feel
Like I'm a queen
Whilst sitting on the throne.
***
The man who launches rockets says,
“The take off is the best.
I cannot launch just one you know,
I have to launch the rest.
I do not know how many more,
But this is so much fun.
I hope that there will always be
At least another one.”
***
Hey diddle diddle
The cat played the fiddle
The piano was played by the frog.
A pink kangaroo played the didgeridoo
And the trumpet was played by the dog.
The band was complete,
And a bird with webbed feet
Sang a ditty, a little off key
But she was doing her best
As she sat on her nest
At the top of a very tall tree.
***
The Wibbles of Wimbledon wobble all day.
They never fall over when they're out to play.
When Wibbles are wobbling, they never fall down
The wobbling Wibbles of Wimbleton Town.
***
I am a little woodworm
And I like eating wood.
I'm in an old oak table
And it's tasting very good.
I live here with my mum and dad
Who tell that we must
Eat this old oak table 'til
It's been reduced to dust.
***
I am a little vampire
Of that, there is no doubt
But tooth decay has finally
Made both my fangs fall out!
